(625 West 156th Street), with the Riviera rising above, at the bottom of the block.  Even in the 21st Century, balconies one floor above street level bring people out to the street on warm evenings and create an outdoor living space.  Occupied or empty, the balconies crown the first floor and accentuate the delineation between the buildings' solid bases and the lighter brick facades that rise above.
